USA Shaolin Temple Newsletter August 2011    New Temple Update Our amazing contractors, Chris, Boopie, and Phil have returned to the Temple for another month of training harder – construction style! Since they left, the temple community has continued the project by sheet rocking and insulating the guest lodges and building the Buddha pavilion. Now that the pros are back, we’ll be able to finish the bath and disciple houses as well. You can read about all of our latest progress here. Press “Life is so Beautiful that we Can’t Afford to Waste It” Interview in Listín Diario Shifu Shi Yan Ming was recently interviewed in the Dominican Republic’s biggest newspaper, Listin Diario, as part of his first visit to the island nation. In the interview, he discusses thhe philosophy of the Shaolin Temple, why he came to the United States, and his responsibilities to the world. News Video: Legendary Weapons Trailer The Wu-Tang Clan recently shot a promo trailer for their new album, “Legendary Weapons”, at the temple. The video features performances from members of the USA Shaolin Temple Demo Team. Click here to check it out. Shaolin Temple Gets Down with Brian “Footwork” Green World-famous dancer Brian “Footwork” Green, along with legendary technical waver Shallow and others, recently led an all-day dance seminar and fundraiser at the Temple. The philosophy they shared was a perfect mirror of that practiced at the temple – the combination of physical and mental – and the importance of expressing oneself. Read all about the event here. Roadtrip Nation visits the Temple Several youths from the Roadtrip Nation program visited the USA Shaolin Temple to try a class and interview Shifu Shi Yan Ming. Their philosophy of “Defining your own road in life instead of traveling down someone else’s” is echoed strongly in Shifu’s message of honestly expressing yourself fully in life. Laughter and Tears at the Poetry Night Fundraiser One of Shifu’s oldest disciples, Heng Fo, returned to the Temple from his home in Chicago for the first time in many years to share some love at the Temple’s first Poetry Night fundraiser. With additional performances by Vadim Galperin and the Temple’s demo team, it was a night full of expression and emotion like no other. Click here to read all about this amazing evening. Shifu Visits the Dominican Republic Shifu’s first trip to the Dominican Republic was a spectacular event featuring an amazing seminar as well as meetings with politicians and media figures. Learn about the exciting trip here. Mexico Retreat Exceeds Expectations The Shaolin Temple Mexico’s annual retreat with Shifu Shi Yan Ming was the most exciting yet. The retreat, which brings together in friendship the entire Chinese martial arts community of Mexico, was attended by students from all over both Mexico and the world. Click here to read all about it. Upcoming Events Annual Disciple Ceremony The Temple’s annual disciple ceremony has been moved to September 18th and will be held at the Temple in Manhattan. The event is open to all disciples and family of new disciples. Monthly Movie Night Fundraiser Come support the construction of the upstate temple while enjoying drinks, popcorn, and a martial arts movie!
